The future…

..doesn’t exist.  I do believe I will be finished with this blog as my semester is coming to an end.  Thank you to anyone that actually read this.

These are notes for my final project, you can ignore them.

A day in the life

The first video here is me changing an exhaust gasket on my X.  The old one was starting to deteriorate and if left alone I would have ended up with an exhaust leak.  It’s a long video but it’s a good idea of what it’s like to work in tight places under a car.

The second video is a very short run ON A TOTALLY CLOSED ROAD!  I SWEAR!!!  I roll until about 3k RPM in first gear.  I do this because I don’t feel like putting the unneccesary strain on my clutch.  The car is not stock but the clutch is, and it has 17,000 miles on it.  So don’t mind the slowness during the first couple seconds.  After that I stomp it to the floor, turbo spools (you can hear to BOV between each shift very well) and I get to third gear where I let off the gas.  So as soon as I hit 3rd gear I just shift up the rest of the way to 5th and slow down.

midnight club

Woohoo!  I get to combine both of my hobbies in this post!  Video games and cars!  Looks like the X is in the newest Download Pack for Midnight Club: Streets of LA. I don’t like the wheels or body-kit on the one in the picture, but I’m sure I can make a much better looking one.  The car packs are 240 point on 360 or 2.99 on the PS3.  You need to  “South Central” map pack to use them, but the map pack is free so that’s no problem.

The biggest question for me will be… should I paint her Purple or Orange?  Decisions decisions….

Garrett Turbo

Look at that bad boy!  Garrett has releases the GT3071R (Good for 475 BHP by itself) and the GT3076R (Good for 525 BHP by itself).  The best part of this turbo set-up that it is ENTIRELY bolt-on.  No welds or modification neccesary.  One just removes the stock snail and puts this one in it’s place.  Good job Garrett for making such an innovative turbo.

I’m still waiting to see how laggy each one of these is.  [Lag is the time it takes the turbo to spool and thus how long before the car makes real power] Hopefully someday I will have the funds to get one of these bad boys in my car.  The FP Red is another nice turbo for the X but it seems a bit laggier than I would like.

Any which way I can’t wait to see some people get these in their cars!

timeline

Incoming is a timeline of the Evo from I to X.  For class I had to make something interactive and I figured that this would fit the bill and be somewhat interesting.  I will have images of each Evo from the beginning to present.

I have already gathered the pictures so shortly you should see the timeline pop up.

Malves85 has posted up a review of his pre-production Cold Air Intake from SpeedCircuit.  Impressions are good so far.  I will probably be getting one with the Inlet (pipe to turbo) and trying to figure out something to do with my BOV.  I might just keep it pulling from the LICP(Lower Intercooler Pipe).  I like the idea of cold air and I want it to recirculate.

The new grumble

I finally have videos of my wicked edition SpeedCircuit exhaust.  This thing makes noises that no four-banger should!  This videos don’t quite do it justice because something is lost when it is filmed.  They do give you a good idea, just imagine it even meaner than what you hear here.

So needless to say I absolutely love it.  I got tuned while I was there so now the car pulls hard as hell.  Pulls nice and hard down low and up high.  And driving through a tunnel?  That sound will plant a smile on your face like nothing else.

Hopefully once I get my intake situation figured out I will get re-tuned on a dyno (to get horsepower readings and get a more precise tune).

black tips are sexy

The exhaust is finished and on the car.  It sounds AMAZING (as you will hear once I upload the video) and looks fantastic.  I have a few teaser shots for now and next post should contain the video.  Thumbs up to Dino for taking his time making a flawless product.

exhaust test fit

Over the weekend I test fitted my SpeedCircuit exhaust.  This thing sounds so mean.  You would never believe a 4-banger could make a sound like this.  Hopefully, if all goes according to plan, Thursday I will be heading back to the shop to pick it up and take it home.  If this is the case then you can be sure I will be posting some pictures!

I forgot to bring my camera during the test fit, which is a shame because we powder-coated the tips black and it looks sexy beyond all belief.

That seems to be most of what I have to say right now… Oh, if you happen to watch that awful movie Fast and Furious (I haven’t seen it yet but for some silly reason I know I will and then complain about it afterwards) keep an eye out for the Wicked White Evo X.  That one belongs to M1Rene from the boards.  This happened before he painted it purple so it isn’t nearly as awesome as it is now… but it’s still there representing our community!

Evo april fools

Fun little April fools day joke travelling around the Evo community.

Boise — A vehicle recall you may not have heard about that could put you in danger.

Imagine your car is parked in your garage and a fire erupts under the hood of it — spreading to your home.

It’s a national safety recall announced by Mitsubishi a few months ago that we found has affected many drivers since then and now possibly one local family.

A Boise home caught on fire last month and fire investigators say the cause was undetermined, but they say it started in or near a Mitsubishi Lancer parked in the garage — a car that is included in the recall.

Mitsubishi initiated the recall of certain crossovers and cars a few months ago and has added additional vehicles to its list since then.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the vehicles contain a defective cruise control switch that could lead to a fire at any time, even while the vehicle is turned-off, parked and unattended.

Across the country there are stories about the vehicles catching on fire.

In Minnesota, a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution parked in an attached garage started a fire and burned a home to the ground.

In Orlando, Florida, a family lost everything when their house burned down because their 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander burst into flames.

"I thank God that we’re alive. This is just material things, but it can be replaced. But I thank God for my children and my sister," said Marzetta Daniels.

Locally, in west Boise, workers are repairing the damage from a fire that started in a garage and spread to a majority of the home. Fortunately, the family made it out OK.

Boise Fire investigators say a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer was parked inside the garage and they were unable to pinpoint where the fire started because the hood of the car, the engine and the front of the garage were so badly damaged.

The homeowner told investigators the vehicle had been driven earlier but was parked in the garage.

The family did not want to speak with us on camera but is working with insurance agents and one neighbor tells us they are aware of the recall.

In the weeks since this recall was first announced, we have learned that thousands of customers had not brought their cars in to get the corrected repairs.

So if that’s you — it might be worth pulling your truck or car out of the garage until you can get it looked at.

You should contact your local Mitsubishi dealer if you have questions.

The recall includes more than 5 vehicle models built from 2006 to now.

Mitsubishi Motors says it has contacted owners to notify them of any recalls.

I got a good laugh out of it… some people even fell for it.  Good job to whoever started this one.
